In This ACTS Bible School Class, we will read excerpts of biographies from believers who had deep experiences with the Cross.  Specifically, we will examine how the Lord brings a believer to the end of him- or herself that Christ might be their life in a practical way. 
These classes are in a discussion format, where the students are able to share and discuss. 
In this introductory lesson, we read "Himself" by A.B. Simpson and study what I Corinthians 1:23-31 has to say about the working of the Cross in the believer's life.

An obscure man rich in wisdom miraculously saves his city and then fades into obscurity.  Why?  What was the wisdom he possessed?  And why do the Spirit-inspired Scriptures call it great wisdom?  This is a mystery that can only be unlocked by seeing the Cross of Jesus Christ from an eternal view!

In this series we will be looking at a specific group of Bible characters who have something very important to reveal concerning how the nature of Christ manifests in His people.  In this episode we look at Jesus as our Forerunner.  He, too, disappeared; and He did so under very similar conditions as Abel, who we looked at in the last episode.  What we will discover is the deep value that the Father places on such a disappearance!  May we see Christ and be changed. 

This episode is the first in what will be a series of meditations that explore minor and unnamed characters in the Scriptures.  Why did the Holy Spirit bother with such people at all if He had people like David and Paul to teach us Christ?  Why did so many "little people" give themselves in very big ways, only to exit off the pages of Scripture without a promotion or even an honorable mention?
The answers are found in Christ and in our Father's love for His Son.  May the Spirit of God bring us more deeply into His image. 

"Bride" is the Church's relationship with the Risen Son, a relationship that was conceived in the Father's heart long before creation.  For believers, it is a new identity, a new form, having  been formed in love and perfection and acceptance.  May we allow the Spirit to wash our understanding with the Word that we may come into this image!
